Malcolm is a self taught artist and designer of unique furniture art. Malcolm showed a flair for creative drawings from a young age, but his passion for creating weird and wonderful and other worldly places and creatures did not quite fit in with the confines of the standard art GCSEs syllabus much to the frustration of his art teacher !
Malcolm's passion for art and design developed into a love for crafting designs from wood and metal which inspired him to hone his craft to enable conversion of his design creations into beautiful interior pieces combining art with function.
Hi there, I'm an artist of unique furniture art, as well as pieces made for pure artistic pleasure. My inspiration comes from mainly the insect world especially the arachnid species. I find these creatures very facinating to look at. I try to make my pieces with similar features that bring my pieces to life and give them charactor, as if they could move about at there own will. They may be creepy to some, but others will see their beauty. My furniture is where art meets function and would make a statement where ever it goes. I'd like to think all my pieces have some kind of impact on whoever sees it , weather they like it or not. I also get inspiration from organic forms and shapes. My volcanic effect comes from the rocks I used to collect from a beach on the Northumberland coast that had holes in , pitted and very volcanic like. Ive tried to replicate this on my pieces including my metal pieces. My work is made mainly from wood and metal. The main woods I use are oak and walnut and the metals mainly bronze, copper and aluminium. I find wood gives a very warm look and metal very industrial and I love mixing the two together.
